Uri Shulevitz was born February 27, 1935, in Warsaw, Poland. He came to the United States in 1959, and became a naturalized citizen during the 1960s. He became an author and illustrator of children's books, for which he has received numerous awards and honors, including two Caldecott Honors for The Treasure in 1979, and Snow in 1999.
